Perx by Covase · Salary sacrifice

Electric car salary sacrifice. Solar and battery storage too, if you want them.

Perx gets you a new or pre-loved electric car for a fixed monthly amount from your gross pay, with a home charger, solar panels and a battery on the same payslip if you want them. Your employer runs it through payroll at no direct cost to the business. Covase arranges it, and has managed UK fleets since 2003.

Car first, home energy too

Most schemes stop at the car. Ours doesn't.

The car, the charger, the solar and the battery, on one line of your payslip. The only UK salary sacrifice scheme we're aware of that covers all four. Take the car on its own, or add any of the others.

Electric car

Any make, any model, new or pre-loved, on terms from two to five years.

Home charger

Typically installed with the car, unless you already have one. About £18 a month in our example.

Solar panels

Through Perx Energy, with or without a car. Agreements up to seven years.

Home battery

Through Perx Energy, on the same payslip as everything else.

Company car tax rises each year under current rules (5% in 2027/28, 7% in 2028/29, 9% in 2029/30), so the car's cost from take-home pay rises a little each year: £19,685 over the full 48 months. The NI passback is your employer's choice; this example includes 20%. Electricity uses the WLTP range and battery size (187 miles from 41 kWh, about 4.6 miles per kWh) with all charging at home overnight; real-world driving, winter weather and charging losses can add 10 to 30%. Illustrative, from quotes dated 29 October 2026. Not a quote for you.

Motor insurance is priced for an example driver aged 46 in Oxfordshire with no extra drivers. Yours is priced at quote.

OR GO PRE-LOVED

33% less

from take-home pay than the new equivalent, in a recent example from our pre-loved range (a 2023 Hyundai Ioniq 5).

A pre-loved car usually means a lower monthly sacrifice. The saving comes from the lease, not the tax: company car tax follows the car's original list price. Same payslip, and Life Event cover is available too.

Optional Life Event cover

If life changes, the car agreement can end or pause without a large bill. Included in the MINI example.

  • Redundancy or a change of jobEarly-termination costs capped at three months' rental after the first three months.
  • Long-term sickness or a medical licence lossThe car goes back with no early-termination costs once sickness means your pay can no longer cover the sacrifice, or if you lose your licence on medical grounds.
  • Parental or adoption leaveYour employer can keep the car on, with rental paused for up to 12 months once your pay can no longer cover it.

Applies to the car only, and terms depend on the funder. Qualifying periods and conditions apply, and leaving during a probation period isn't covered; full details on request. Separate cover is available for solar, battery and charger.

Optional motor insurance

A fixed premium for the whole lease term, underwritten by QBE, and included in the car cost, not a separate deduction. Up to two extra drivers at the same address.

The MINI example includes it for an example driver. Yours is priced at quote, because the premium depends on who drives and where the car is kept.

Questions people ask.

Can I choose any car?

Yes. We supply any make, any model, new or pre-loved. The MINI on this page is one example: your monthly cost depends on the car, your salary and tax band, the term and the mileage.

Can I add motor insurance?

Yes. Optional motor insurance is underwritten by QBE, with the premium fixed for the whole lease term. It's included in the car cost within your Perx deduction, not a separate deduction. The MINI example on this page includes it for an example driver; yours is priced at quote, because the premium depends on who drives and where the car is kept.

What does it cost my employer?

Nothing direct. There's no setup fee, no per-employee licence and no minimum spend. In the MINI example on this page, the employer still keeps about £765 a year in National Insurance after passing 20% back to the employee.

My employer already has a car scheme. Can we still use Perx?

Yes. Perx runs alongside an existing provider on one payslip, and employees can take one, the other, or both. Employers already committed elsewhere on the car often start with Perx Energy, which doesn't depend on who supplies the car.

What happens if I leave my job?

The car agreement ends and the car goes back to the leasing company. An early-termination charge can apply; with optional Life Event cover it's capped at three months' rental after the first three months. For home energy, the options are to transfer the agreement to a new employer with a compatible scheme, settle the balance and keep the equipment, or return it for a pro-rata settlement.

What if I'm made redundant, off long-term sick or on parental leave?

Optional Life Event cover changes what happens to the car if life changes. Long-term sickness, once your pay can no longer cover the sacrifice, or losing your licence on medical grounds: the car goes back with no early-termination costs. Parental or adoption leave: your employer can keep the car on, with rental paused for up to 12 months once your pay can no longer cover it, or end the agreement. Redundancy, resignation, retirement or reduced hours: early-termination costs are capped at three months' rental after the first three months. It applies to the car only, qualifying periods and conditions apply, leaving during a probation period isn't covered, and full details are available on request.

What is the NI passback?

Your employer pays less National Insurance on the salary you sacrifice. They can choose to pass part of that saving back to you, which lowers your monthly deduction. It isn't a cash payment, and your own tax and NI relief is worked out on the lower deduction. In our MINI example a 20% passback takes £15.93 a month off the sacrifice.

Who owns the car?

The leasing company owns it for the whole term. At the end you take a new car on a fresh agreement or hand it back. There's no obligation to buy or to renew.

Will company car tax go up during my agreement?

Under current rules, company car tax on electric cars rises each year to 9% in 2029/30, and Budget 2026 announced 10% for 2030/31. Terms run from two to five years, so you can match the agreement to the rates already published.
